The purpose of a slit-lamp in contact lens evaluations is to evaluate contact lens fitting and detect abnormalities. This specialized microscope allows eye care professionals to closely examine the anterior segment of the eye, including the cornea, conjunctiva, and eyelid structures. When assessing contact lens fit, a practitioner can observe the way the lens sits on the cornea, check for proper movement, and ensure that there is no undue pressure or irritation caused by the lens.

Additionally, a slit-lamp examination can help identify any signs of complications, such as corneal abrasion, dryness, or infection, which may arise from contact lens wear. The illuminated slit beam provides a clear, magnified view, making it a critical tool for ensuring both the effectiveness and safety of contact lens use.
